What benefits does eco-labeling bring to the average consumer in Ukraine?

In April 2020, products manufactured by Planet Plastic LLC successfully passed environmental certification, and we are proud to share this news.

The Market for Environmentally Friendly Products Expanded with Items from Planet Plastic LLC.

Pressure pipes for drinking water and natural gas supply, along with protective pipes for telecommunication cable laying manufactured by Planet Plastic LLC, as well as our polyethylene films (stabilized, virgin, mulching, silage, heat-shrink, stretch hood, grain storage sleeves (silage bags), and geomembranes) have successfully passed environmental certification. They received environmental certificate No. UA.08.002.515 and the right to use the environmental label. The assessment was carried out according to the ISO 14024 scheme for compliance with the requirements of the standard SOU OEM 08.002.14.055:2010 Polymeric Products. Environmental Life Cycle Assessment Criteria.

SOU OEM 08.002.14.055:2010 is harmonized with the criteria for polymer products of the EU Ecolabel and Nordic countries (Nordic Swan) environmental labeling programs. Its requirements are adapted to the EU legislative acts, in particular:

• Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH);
• Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP);
• Directive 2001/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 3 December 2001 on general product safety.

Now, the international ISO 14024 environmental label—the “Green Crane”—can be seen on all our products.

The environmental certification process for Planet Plastic LLC products lasted about two years. During this time, the company’s products were meticulously inspected by the certification bodies. Based on their feedback, certain adjustments were made to our production technology and product formulations.

But what is the advantage of eco-labeled products for the end consumer?

• First of all, it means that the consumer receives a product that is safe for both the environment and human health.
• Secondly, environmentally certified products do not contain toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, or teratogenic substances.
• Thirdly, our products do not release hazardous chemicals into the environment, such as formaldehyde, butanol, isobutanol, propanol, isopropanol, or acetone.
• Our products are safe at all stages of their life cycle—from raw ingredients to packaging.

In other words, when you drink water from a pipe by Planeta Plastik, consume vegetables grown under our greenhouse film, enjoy strawberries ripened on our mulching film, or eat bread made from wheat stored in our grain storage sleeves, you can have peace of mind regarding your health and the health of your loved ones. Our products pose no negative impact on human health or the environment. More precisely, any Ukrainian-manufactured product that has passed certification and carries an eco-label is verified safe for humans and nature.

The primary objective of our enterprise is to manufacture high-quality, eco-safe products for the environment and future generations, achieve a superior level of manufacturing environmental safety, build a market for products with enhanced ecological properties, and maximize resource preservation.

All products by Planet Plastic LLC are 100% recyclable at the end of their life cycle. We employ resource-efficient, zero-waste technologies designed to mitigate environmental pressure. Production scraps are recycled and re-introduced into the manufacturing process. Certain product types utilize recycled raw materials as a baseline component.

Our goals center on the rational use of natural resources, the implementation of energy- and resource-efficient technologies alongside cleaner production methods, lean manufacturing, and the minimization and maximal recycling of waste. We utilize energy-efficient processes and technologies that reduce the consumption of electricity and process water, decrease product unit weight, and lower waste generation.
